The Best Things Going on in and Around Greater Manchester this August

Check out the top 5 things you can do his month to ensure you make the most of summer in the city!

1. Visit Dunham Massey for a green escape

The National Trust is the largest conservation charity in Europe, they help protect sites of natural beauty across the UK in order to preserve some of the country’s finest nature, beauty and history. From coasts and countryside’s to castles and historical houses the National Trust offers a range of great places for anyone and everyone to visit.

Dunham Massey is one of the National Trust sites in the Greater Manchester area, it is home to a grand Georgian house, beautiful grounds and a protected deer park. There are always activities going on- this August you and your children can meet Dunham’s collection of characters, inspired by those from traditional fairy tales, as they lead the whole family on a journey of magical discovery and activity through the grounds.

2. Explore at The Science and Industry Museum

The Science and Industry Museum explores Manchester’s rich legacy of scientific discoveries. From exhibitions exploring the textile world and the industrial revolution to the first railways and engineering feats, this hands-on experience allows you to explore and interact with 250 years of innovations and ideas that started in Manchester but went on to change the world.

A multi-million-pound restoration programme is underway at this significant industrial heritage site. Crucial restoration work to the Grade II listed Power Hall and  the Grade I 1830 Station will enable visitors to further enjoy, play and learn about Manchester and its global impact in innovation.

3. Indulge with the new menu at The French

Adam Ried is a widely acclaimed Manchunian chef. Since joining The French, a restaurant within The Midland Hotel in November 2016 he has elevated the dining experience, the atmosphere,  the menus, and incorporated his pièce de résistance – the chefs counter, all of which have worked to establish The French as one of the city’s most celebrated restaurants.

This month marks the launch of Adam’s brand new ‘accessible’ menu at the restaurant, which will cost £75 per head and includes a full course menu with the option for wine pairings. For those looking for a special dining experience in Manchester this is certainly one to try.

4. Sit back and relax at an epic outdoor cinema

Tatton Park is another National Trust site in Cheshire, just outside of Manchester. This August there will be an outdoor cinema experience showing a range of feel good films on the big screen. The grounds of this historic estate make for a magnificent viewing experience and a perfect way to spend a summer evening.

5. Take it easy in the recently launched ‘Park in the Skies’

In the Castlefield neighbourhood of the city a brand new urban ‘park in the skies’ has just opened. Built upon a disused GradeII former viaduct, the park is inspired by New York’s High Line public park, and features 3,000 plant species in gardens created by architects and community groups. This unique park is certainly worth a visit, but be quick because the first ticket launch sold out in record time.
